This little baby hat is super fast and easy to make, and requires only basic crochet skills. This pattern is only for newborn sizes, but can be easily adjusted by adding increase rows to make a larger size. I used a K hook, but adjust according to your gauge. The yarn I used is Lince by Ice Yarns, a mohair/merino blend. It's a #2 fine weight yarn.
Start with a magic loop. There are tons of youtube videos on this if you need help.
*don't turn at the end of the rows*
Row 1: 8 hdc in magic loop. Ss in first hdc to Join. Ch 1. (8)
Row 2: 2 hdc in each stitch. Join with ss. Ch 1. (16)
Row 3: *2hdc in first stitch. 1 hdc in next st.* repeat around. Join with ss. Ch 1. (24)
Row 4: *2hdc in first st. 1 hdc in next 2 st.* Repeat around. Join with ss. Ch 1. (32)
**This is a good spot to stop and check your gauge. At this point, your work should measure about 4 inches across. If it is smaller, you need a bigger hook. If it's bigger, you need to go down a hook size.
Row 12: 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a ss and fasten off. Weave in ends. (32)
Now we are going to make the swirly little flower. This is so darn easy. You won't believe it.
Ch 28. Turn. Skip a stitch, and 2 dc in every stitch to the end. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Your piece should be like a long-floppy-corkscrewy-dealybopper.
Now wind it up into a cute little flower, as loose or as tightly as you wish. Carefully turn it over and use that long tail you left to sew it together.
Stitch it to your hat. Be creative. You could add a button or pearl to the center of the flower to make it extra darling.
