Reusable Sandwich Baggie Tutorial

These super easy and cute reusable sandwich sacs are sure to save you money and keep more trash out of the landfills.

Materials:
cotton print
pul
velcro
thread

1) Cut 2 8x8 inch squares of your outside material (I prefer cotton prints), and 2 8x8 squares of a coordinating pul. Pul is a waterproof material that is often used in diaper making. I buy mine here: http://74.52.140.226/~kidsinth/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_11_12_20&zenid=c099292be1a7a15703a4af51829bcd1b To cut them uniformly I use a quilters cutting mat and a rotary cutter.

2) Pair one outside piece and one inside piece with wrong sides together. For pul the wrong side is the side that is not shiny. Serge together along top edge only. Repeat with the other fabric.

3) Sew a piece of the hook side of the velcro (strip app. 7 inches long) along the top edge of one of your serged together sides. Sew a piece of the loop side of velcro (same length as the first) along the top edge of the other serged side of your sack.

4) Put the pieces together so that the velcro matches up and serge along the three raw edges. (you should be serging through 4 layers of fabric: two of the cotton print and two of the pul)

5)Enjoy your baggie!

Yummy Yummy English Muffins

This may not be the greenest recipe...but you are still making it yourself!
1 cup milk
1 T white sugar
1 T honey
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup melted butter
6 cups flour (you can do half white and half wheat if you wish)
1 t salt

  1. Heat the milk over medium heat until it bubbles. Make sure to not scald the milk. Remove from heat. Mix in sugar and honey and stir until dissolved. Let cool until lukewarm. In the meantime dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let sit 10 mins. or until creamy.
  2. In large bowl or mixer combine milk mixture, yeast mixture, butter, and half of the flour. Combine until smooth. Add salt and remaining flour and knead into a soft dough. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise.
  3. Punch down the dough and roll out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into rounds using a glass or biscuit cutter if you have one. Set on wax paper that is sprinkled with cornmeal and dust the tops of muffins with cornmeal as well. Allow to rise as before.
  4. Heat greased griddle to med. heat. Cook on griddle 10 minutes each side.

Enjoy!
